Today The New School embarks on a new journey, we’re celebrating the diverse and ever-evolving Pacific Northwest beer scene by debuting our Washington division. Our new team will be dedicated to bringing you breaking news, industry interviews, beer releases, brewery openings, event previews, and much more happening in the Evergreen state. The New School Beer was founded in 2010 by Ezra Johnson-Greenough, since then New School has pumped out breaking news stories, reviews, interviews, industry updates and much more covering the Pacific Northwest beer, cider, and mead scene with a large focus on Oregon. With Washington being just shy of 300 operational breweries we decided it was time to dedicate a new section of New School to covering Washington beer, cider, and mead news and events.

Lindsey Scully

Lindsey Scully

The New School’s Washington Editor, Lindsey Scully has lived in Washington for over 25 years and has been involved in the local beer scene for 5 years. She founded the Seattle chapter of Girls Pint Out, active member of Pink Boots Society, and freelances for various beer websites including Brewed for Thought and Volume by Alcohol. You can also find her beertending at Stoup Brewing in Ballard when she is not out imbibing at new breweries or filling up her WABL passport. Erica Baze

Erica Baze

The New School’s Washington Contributor, Erica Baze might be new to the area but she has been working in the craft beer industry for several years now. Recently moved from California where she previously worked at Mikkeller Bar SF, and Oregon where she worked at several beer bars and one of the iconic McMenamin’s pubs. Her love of beer knows no bounds, she will easily tell you her favorites range from a crisp Berliner Weisse to a bourbon barrel-aged stout. You can reach her at Erica@NewSchoolBeer.com


Don Scheidt has been into good beer since before the dawn of craft brewing in the Pacific Northwest. He created the Northwest Brewpage, a regional guide to good beer in Oregon and Washington, back in the mid-1990s, but has since retired it. Don started writing the Washington state “Puget Soundings” column for Celebrator Beer News in 1998, and continues to do that today. Don also wrote about beer for the Seattle Weekly in 2005-2006.
