Black Raven Brewery

Every year on November 5 you will hear the same poem, you will see the infamous masks, and if you happen to be near Redmond you will get to taste Black Raven Brewery’s Gunpowder Plot Nitro Porter. Black Raven releases Gunpowder Plot every year on Guy Fawkes Day to celebrate the unsuccessful atempt by Guy Fawkes and his conspirators to not only assassinate King James I but also blow up the entire House of Lords with numerous barrels of gunpowder.

The Gunpowder Plot story and Guy Fawkes’ reasoning are fascinating, both of which are well deserving of your time to read up on. The Plot contains many layers, the political and religious tension that was growing, the anonymous tip sent to authorities, and catching Guy Fawkes red-handed. Gunpowder Plot Nitro Porter also has numerous layers, the beer has bourbon-infused locally roasted coffee beans, local cocoa nibs, and the nitrogen gives the beer a creamy mouthfeel. You can enjoy this beer on draft at Black Raven’s taproom starting November 5, after that kegs will also be distributed to the following establishments: Chuck’s Hop Shop (both locations), The Sixgill, Brouwer’s, Special Brews, The Pine Box, The Black Duck Cask & Bottle, Route 2 Taproom, Malt and Vine, Fred’s Rivertown Alehouse, Pine Lake Ale House, Flatstick Pub, Three Lions Pub, and The Collective On Tap.

“This annual release nitro porter celebrates the thwarting of an insidious plot attempted by Guy Fawkes & his band of anti-heroes on November 5th, 1605. Fawkes’ goal was to blow up the House of Lords with barrels of gunpowder. This year we plotted closely with Anchorhead Coffee Roasters, out of Duvall, to create a perfectly roasted coffee exclusively for this beer. We soaked a portion of those pristine beans in top shelf bourbon, and cellared the whole shebang on criminal amounts of Theo Chocolates cocoa nibs. In order to unify the flavors and give it that classic British feel we conditioned it on Nitrogen. So quench the conspiracy, light your fires and remember the 5th of November.

ABV: 6.9%”
